Oxford’s Top Ten Irritating Phrases

Would you like to impress your boss or blog better? Unless you aim to do just that—irritate—then avoid the following phrases that researchers at the Oxford University found to be most irritating:

  1. At the end of the day
  2. Fairly unique
  3. I personally
  4. At this moment in time
  5. With all due respect
  6. Absolutely
  7. It’s a nightmare
  8. Shouldn’t of
  9. 24/7
  10. It’s not rocket science

Post US elections 2008, I like to see the following added to the top 100 list:

  • we are mavericks
  • white hard-working Americans
  • this great country of ours
  • you betcha
  • godunnit
  • my friends
  • there you go again, Joe
  • Joe the plumber
  • pit bulls
  • fair and balanced
